It’s always so hard to pick the next travel destination…. so here’s a suggestion: Florida. It’s warm, it’s sunny, and it’s a short plane ride away. Of course,  Florida has dozens of  options so you’re going to have to make some tough choices!

Key West

Key West is a traveler’s favorite- what a laid-back vibe!  Wouldn’t it would be cool to visit Key West and take in a Jimmy Buffett concert? If you are a diver, you  would definitely want to check out some of the cool dive spots such as the “Christ of the Abyss“. More of a literary fan? Then you wouldn’t want to miss a tour of Hemingway’s house– and the six-toed cats that live there. Not to mention, all the beaches and bars you could ever want.

Miami

Speaking of beaches and bars, there’s no better vacation spot than Miami if you’re looking to get away from the cold wintry north and get some sun. South Beach has some of the best examples of Art Deco that you can find anywhere in the US- and you can take it all in wearing shorts and flip-flops, year round. Miami also has a surprising number of museums, gardens, and even an aquarium to visit as well. And the food in Miami? Well, there are so many places to choose from, but if you love Cuban food, you’d definitely want to check out the Little Havana neighborhood.

Disney

Of course a trip to Florida for many families is likely to include a trip to the most magical of vacation spots, the Magic Kingdom of Disney. You might fly in to Orlando airport, but if you want to be as close as possible to Disney World, you’ll want to stay in Lake Buena Vista and check out a Lake Buena Vista city guide– and definitely plan on spending several days! There is no end to the things you can do there, whether you have 2 days to 2 weeks. From Epcot, to the Animal Kingdom, to House of Blues, there’s no end to the number of things you could fill your days (and nights) with.

Tampa

Within driving distance of Orlando, there’s the city of Tampa.  With a coastline and a major metropolitan area, there’s plenty to do in here. The Busch Gardens there are great for kids and the Florida Aquarium has the most amazing creatures. If you’re into dinosaurs, there’s Dinosaur World, and if you like cats, you can visit the Big Cat Rescue park. Tampa has it’s own neighborhood of Cuban delights, Ybor City, and nearly every place in town offers fresh seafood, so take advantage of the local catch!

 

Of course, that’s not the extent of Florida. A day or two in Daytona Beach, or a visit to the Everglades National Park, a visit to the Ponce deLeon Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in St. Augustine might be fun. No matter where you wind up, there’s something in Florida for everyone. So get to planning your next vacation!
